ANNUAL SPRING BREAK COLLEGE TOUR PROGRAM CREATED AND DEVELOPED BY ALVIN D. OWENS PRESENTED BY THE EDUCATION YOUTH DEVELOPMENT OUTREACH IN CONJUNCTION WITH LOCAL SCHOOLS, WORSHIP AND COMMUNITY CENTERS The Education Youth Outreach Committee was established January 1998 for the sole purpose of organizing the annual spring break college tour initiative. A simple request that led to a vision, mission, and endless possibilities… Concerned parents and community leaders sponsored the first college tour. Each year local students look forward to participating on our Annual Spring Break College Tour. In the past we have visited public and private Sacred, Mainstream, Traditional, and also Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Our main objective is to motivate and embrace our youth on the aspects of attending institutions of Higher Education. Adult supporters of our efforts committed themselves to see that specific needs were met within the community. Moreover, the Education Youth program became more diversified and extended its mission by ushering in more Cultural Awareness for the entire community. We accomplished this by taking progressive and consistent steps toward our goal, fulfilling our obligation in educating, and embracing all youth. Past and current sponsors & supporters include: Yolanda Santos-Adams, Yolanda Lewis-Jackson, Jackie Visor, Arlan Owens, Rochelle Moore, Diane Green, Dr. Blane McCann, Martin Pitts, Dr. James Carpenter, Margaret Carpenter, Mike Sharkey, Joseph Mangi, Mayor John M. Antaramian, Kenosha County Executive, Kenosha News’ Howard J. Brown, Daimler Chrysler Corporation, Coleman Chapel AME Church, 23rd Street Church of Christ, Bradford Community Church, Kenosha Area Business Alliance, Local 72 Union, ATC Leasing, Kenosha Unified School District & School Board, Racine Unified School District & School Board, Boys & Girls Club of Kenosha, Urban League & NAACP of Kenosha/Racine, local Barber Shops, educators, parents, participating students and The Brantley-Owens Family. We would like to note a special thanks to Pastor Olen Arrington, and the members of Second Baptist Church of Kenosha, Wisconsin. Please join others in making a difference. The Education Youth Outreach Committee will now work in conjunction with local school districts, worship centers and community organizations. www.beyondcollege.net |
